Duration: January – June 2026 (6 months)

Client & Donor: UNDP Jordan

Location: Jordan Valley - Deir Alla, Sweimeh, Sharhabeel Bin Hasneh, and Tabaqet Fahel

Project Description:

The project strengthened disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience and sustainable food systems governance in four Jordan Valley municipalities. It responded to growing climate and disaster risks, such as drought, floods, frost and heat stress, that threaten agricultural livelihoods and food security, especially for women, youth and other vulnerable groups. The project worked with municipalities, women-led community organisations, community members and farmers, and it built on local and traditional knowledge to promote preparedness that is inclusive and gender-responsive.

Provided Services:

  • Developed a municipal Capacity Assessment Tool and used it to assess the four municipalities’ institutional, technical, financial, human and gender-inclusion capacities
  • Designed and delivered tailored training for municipal staff on DRR, food systems resilience and gender-responsive planning, and supported them in developing Municipal Action Plans and gender planning tools
  • Ran storytelling focus group discussions to record traditional coping practices, and used them to produce culturally relevant awareness materials, including a brochure
  • Delivered crisis preparedness workshops for community members and helped them write community action plans
  • Trained community champions, most of them women, in leadership and community mobilisation, and supported them in designing and implementing four local resilience initiatives
  • Delivered practical training for smallholder farmers in climate-smart agricultural technologies at ECO Consult’s Yanmoo Horticulture Hub
  • Developed key messages and scripts for two educational videos

Key Results:

  • 17 municipal staff trained (target 16), with 94% showing improved knowledge
  • 124 community members reached through preparedness workshops (target 120), 94% of them women
  • 41 community champions trained (target 40)
  • 4 community-led initiatives carried out: vegetable drying, tomato processing, organic fertiliser with low-cost drip irrigation, and a mobile early-warning app for farmers
  • 32 smallholder farmers trained in smart agricultural techniques, with 79% showing improved knowledge
  • About 82% of all participants were women
